| AiR
is proud to announce that:
A wonderful commendation arrived by
mail the other day.
Susan Wyngaard, Head of the Wexner/OSU Fine Arts Library
wrote to say, among other things, "I've viewed several of these [AiR] videotapes
and thought them so worthwhile that I purchased the entire set for our
Fine Arts Library. Unlike other video tapes about artists, your videotapes
provide an experience with the artist."
Susan goes on to write,
"You have taken advantage of the medium (video) to demonstrate that artists
are ordinary people who have learned to take chances. Beyond showing how
it is done, the tapes show that it can be done. The experience of
being with the artist encourages the viewer to release the artist within. For that
reason I would recommend these tapes to viewers of all ages, from 9 to 90 and beyond."
Thanks so much, Susan, for your kind words of encouragement!

As part of the BOTA small business makeover (detailed below) Cliff Ennico featured
AiR in his weekly nationally syndicated column. Thanks Cliff!

We Won a Small Business Makeover!
Jane Applegate, the writer of a nationally syndicated small business column,
called recently to announce that AiR had won the opportunity of a
small business makeover. As part of Applegate and AmTrak's cross-country
series of workshops to promote small business after 9/11, Back on Track
America (TM), AiR was selected due to a winning essay about the video
series. Frequent visitors should begin to see changes as AiR consults
with Cliff Ennico, co-host of PBS' Money Hunt show; Nancy Michaels, president of
Impression Impact; and Susan Solovic. Chris will receive his award at
an SBA breakfast to be held in Washington DC on May 9. Stay Tuned!
In consultation with numerous
classroom art teachers through the Getty Foundation's ArtsEdNet,
AiR is engaged to create a parallel to it's offerings: a special
classroom "Teacher's Edition." Selected tapes will be edited into 15 minute
stand-alone segments making the tapes easier to use in classes with
restricted time frames. Thanks to all the teachers from across the country
and Puerto Rico who are participating in the evaluation process.
At a recent meeting of the
Ohio Educational Media Consortium, the board has decided to purchase
duplication rights to 23 AiR titles for its
26 member school and library systems and arts centers.
Lee Ekleberry of the Grandview
Heights High School is currently using two of the artinres titles
in his studio arts classes: Dawson Kellogg's Rhapsody in Glass and Ron
Dahline's reflections in Mud. Lee will soon also have a title in
the series as he demonstrates techniques in teaching watercolors in the
classroom.
Mark McGuire of the Fort Hayes
Arts High School has purchased several titles and is looking forward to
including many more in the Columbus Public Schools arts media collection.
James Shannon of at
Very Special Arts of Ohio is working with AiR
to identify award-winning disabled
artists to include in the series. Shannon is also communicating with VSA's
national and international headquarters to see if AiR might assist
in their work to establish artists residencies in public schools.
AiR is collaborating
with Ray Hanley and the staff of GCAC to help
promote Columbus as a center for the arts. This will include incorporating
past recipients of GCAC Individual Artists Fellowships in Visual Arts into the
AiR series. GCAC organizes one of the largest
and most respected juried arts festivals in the Mid-west, the Columbus
Arts Festival.
Through an arrangement between
Richard Peck, Executive VP and editor of Nursing and Long Term Management
Magazine and Sunrise Assisted Living At Tucker Creek, AiR has
provided a variety of titles to see how Sunrise residents respond to our
"behind the scenes" approach to the arts.
