Jane
began her artistic career in 1980 as a self-taught basket weaver, felling and
cutting the trees on her farm, soaking them in her pond to harvest the inner
bark, and pulling the splints herself. She then became a self-taught potter
in 1985, developing and mixing her own glazes and clay body from raw materials.
A strong characteristic of her style is the use of slip trailing to define
sections of glaze free clay as an accent to her glazes. In an effort to
expand her craft and incorporate her basket weaving skills, she often uses
woven ash splints and colored linen thread woven into her pottery. You may
see more of her work by visiting www.yellowspringspottery.com/members/jane.html |
Clay defying Gravity In a unique collaborative
effort, Jane demonstrates her mastery of clay through the creation of two
pieces (a flat bowl and a tall vase)--each seemingly defying gravity--while
her husband (and fellow potter)Jeff provides an in
depth narration of the process. They combine efforts to demonstrate the
extrusion of clay. 50 min. $25.00 US Check out the Ceramics Monthly review of Clay defying Gravity |
