School Library Journal's review of Eric Marlow: Figures in Precious Metals.

Eric Marlow: Figures in Precious Metals. videocassette. color. 45 min. Artists in Residence. 2001. $25.

Gr 9 Up-Artist Eric Marlow clearly explains and demonstrates the lost wax jewelry-making technique.

In his studio, Marlow demonstrates step-by-step how to make a silver ring, starting with a wax ring design. Close-ups of his hands working, designing, and casting the ring, as well as shots of the kiln and the other tools he uses, provide a clear picture of how an artist uses the lost wax technique.

Marlow also shows attractive pins, rings, and other jewelry he has made, explaining in his pleasant manner that the pieces belong to either his nature or figurative series. Both sets are distinctive and reflect his interests. One of his prize pieces is a small, silver, fully articulated human body that can sit in his hand mimicking human gestures.

Art students and anyone interested in jewelry making will enjoy this informative film.--Anitra Gordon, Lincoln High School, Ypsilanti, MI
